Grove Resignation: GroveShakespeare artistic director W. Stuart McDowell, who took over the financially beleaguered Garden Grove company a year ago, quit Thursday night at an emergency board meeting. “The money isn’t there for me to go off into the rehearsal room while also trying to manage the company and raise funds,” McDowell said Friday, only days before he was to begin rehearsals for the season opener, “King Lear.” A new director is being sought for “King Lear,” whose first preview has been postponed a week to June 23. Jules Aaron will step in as interim artistic director of the company until a permanent replacement is found.
