Tough Ratings: Producers of “Kalifornia” plan to appeal the adults-only NC-17 rating that has been given to the movie starring Brad Pitt and Juliette Lewis. Three scenes in the Propaganda Films production already have been trimmed of violent points, said producer Aris McGarry, but that did not not satisfy the ratings panel of the Motion Picture Assn. of America. The late-summer release is about a sociopathic killer and his girlfriend who take a young couple on a tour of historic murder sites. Meanwhile, the Touchstone Pictures release of “What’s Love Got to Do With It?,” about the life of Tina Turner, received an R rating for domestic violence and strong language.
