Roblee Is Named Basketball Coach at Hueneme High

Mike Roblee, a former junior varsity basketball coach at Madera High near Fresno, has been named boys’ basketball coach at Hueneme High, replacing Howard Davis, who resigned in March.

Roblee, 27, has no varsity head coaching experience, according to Reg Welker, Hueneme athletic director. However, Roblee’s role in the organization of a local youth basketball program impressed Hueneme administrators.

“For a guy that young to be so organized and enthusiastic is exciting,” Welker said.

Davis resigned after leading the Vikings to a 16-9 record, including a second-place finish in the Channel League at 10-4, the school’s best league record in 11 years.

Ryan Stromsborg, Notre Dame High’s shortstop and No. 3 hitter, will miss the playoffs because of surgery on his right wrist.

After breaking the wrist playing football more than two years ago, Stromsborg had screws inserted that were supposed to be removed last year. But Stromsborg opted not to have the surgery at that time because he was involved with other sports at Notre Dame. The pain recently became too much for Stromsborg, and he decided Tuesday to have the screws removed.

Stromsborg, a USC signee who was batting .414, hopes to return at the start of the American Legion season.
