The top 100 graduates from the Santa Ana Unified School District will be honored tonight during an academic achievement ceremony sponsored by the Santa Ana Elks.
The annual awards ceremony recognizes seniors from Century, Saddleback, Valley and Santa Ana high schools who have the highest grade-point averages. All honorees have taken at least 10 units of college preparatory courses, the equivalent of 10 yearlong courses or 20 semester courses, said district spokeswoman Diane Thomas.
Board of Education members will join Supt. Rudy M. Castruita in presenting medallions to the students. Universities and colleges which have accepted this year’s honorees include Johns Hopkins, UC Berkeley, Stanford, Harvard, Smith and USC.
With 48,000 students, the district is the largest in the county.
The ceremony will be at the Elks Lodge, 212 Elk Lane, at 7 p.m. The event is open to the public.
