BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Doctors inserted a tiny coil of wire into one of Sen. Howell Heflin’s heart arteries Monday in a bid to avoid a heart attack and bypass surgery.
Heflin, 71, was in satisfactory condition after the procedure.
