Forbes Inc. appointed Caspar Weinberger chairman and named Jeffrey Cunningham publisher of Forbes magazine, the company announced on Monday.
Weinberger, 75, fills a position that has remained vacant since the 1990 death of founder Malcolm S. Forbes.
The former secretary of defense under President Reagan joined Forbes in 1989, becoming the magazine’s fourth publisher.
“Seven years ago, Forbes Inc. was known mainly as the publisher of Forbes magazine,” said Malcolm S. Forbes Jr., president and chief executive of Forbes Inc. and editor-in-chief of the magazine. “Caspar Weinberger is one of few individuals with the international vision and stature to guide the company on its new global mission.”
Malcolm S. Forbes Jr., president and chief executive of Forbes Inc. and editor in chief of the magazine, said Weinberger’s election and Cunningham’s promotion recognize the major roles the two men have played in strengthening the magazine and its corporate parent.
