Foodmaker Reports Net Loss, Lower Sales: In the wake of a food-poisoning epidemic linked to Jack in the Box hamburgers sold in the Pacific Northwest, San Diego-based Foodmaker Inc. reported a second-quarter net loss of $29.3 million, or 75 cents a share, which is within the range that the fast-food chain’s parent previously had predicted. Systemwide sales fell 15.6% to $285.4 million, while sales at restaurants open a year were down 22.2%. Foodmaker’s total revenue was $244.9 million, down 11.7%. In the second quarter of 1992, Foodmaker reported a net loss of $57.4 million, primarily because of an extraordinary charge from the early payment of debt.
