Blues Piano Blowout

A pair of boogie woogie piano virtuosos will be featured at this week’s Blue Monday presentation in Ventura.
Rob Rio and Carl Sonny Leyland will perform solo and in a four-handed blowout at 8:15 p.m. at the Ventura Holiday Inn.
Both artists have several albums to their credit and are acclaimed masters of their craft. Eight bucks will get you in.
To quote the news release: “Boogie woogie is a blues piano form that has its origins in the itinerant labor camps of the Deep South around the turn of the century. Its references to trains in both the lyrics and rhythms attests to the mode of travel the pianists used to get to their places of employment.”
Translation: More powerful than a locomotive, boogie woogie music would make a statue of Capt. Ahab dance.
A pre-concert swing dance class will commence at 7:15 p.m. For more information, call 646-7230.
