VENTURA : School Board OKs Rise in Development Fees

The board of the Ventura Unified School District has voted to raise residential and commercial development fees.
Voting unanimously at the district meeting Tuesday night, board members agreed to increase residential fees from $1.50 a square foot to $2.65, and commercial fees from 25 cents a square foot to 27 cents.
According to developers, districts in most other cities have already raised fees in response to a state law allowing residential fees to increase $1 per square foot, plus a cost-of-living adjustment.
In a 1,600-square-foot residence, the fee increase will cost the developer about $1,800.
The fees go toward offsetting costs of building school facilities caused by an influx of students from new developments.
