American Airlines to Ban Use of Computers, CDs: Citing safety concerns, American Airlines plans to ban the use of laptop computers, compact-disc players and other electronic devices on planes during takeoffs and landings, the New York Times reported. The ban stems from concerns raised by airline pilots that electronic devices interfere with an aircraft’s navigation or communications systems, although there is no scientific evidence proving that to be the case. American’s policy is expected to go into effect by July, the newspaper reported.
