Trustee Application Process Starts Today

The Ventura County Board of Education is taking applications beginning today to fill the trustee post vacated by Robert G. Viles, who resigned last week.
Viles, 58, pleaded no contest to five counts of grand theft and tax fraud in a criminal case that was not related to his duties with the board.
Voting Monday night in a special meeting at the Camarillo Airport Conference Center, the board unanimously decided to appoint a provisional trustee instead of spending $75,000 for a special election. Viles had about 18 months left in his four-year term.
Applicants must be registered voters and cannot work for county schools or school districts. They also have to live in Area 1, which includes Ventura, La Conchita and parts of Oxnard.
Applications can be obtained by calling the board at 652-7332. The deadline for sending in applications is May 26. Board members will interview all qualified applicants at an open meeting in early June.
