LOS ANGELES : Liquor Store Owners Sue City Over Zoning Rules
- Share via
Three owners of liquor stores destroyed in last year’s riots filed suit against the city of Los Angeles on Monday in an effort to stop the city from requiring zoning variances and conditional use permits for those who want to rebuild their stores.
The Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit by Soo Chun Cha, David Kim, Daniel Whang and the nonprofit Korean-American Legal Advocacy Foundation also challenges the right of the city to conduct liquor license revocation proceedings in such cases.
Some community activists have objected to the rebuilding of stores that sold liquor in the riot areas, contending that such businesses are magnets for lawlessness.
