The Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to pay $150,000 to settle a lawsuit by a 25-year-old woman who was sexually assaulted by a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy in April, 1991.
The former deputy, Lloyd Shoemaker, was assigned to the Temple City station when he stopped a motorist for a traffic violation in El Monte, officials said. After discovering that the woman had an outstanding arrest warrant, Shoemaker coerced her into having sex.
Shoemaker was convicted in October of rape, battery, oral copulation and lewd conduct for raping two women and sexually assaulting a third. He is serving a 14-year prison sentence, officials said.
