RADIO FOR HELP: What happens when a radio station has to have a $15,000 piece of equipment to operate but doesn’t have the money? Saddleback College’s commercial-free jazz station KSBR found an answer: Order it, then appeal for help during your pledge week. New FCC regulations forced the station to dump its old transmitter link before it could pay for a new one. But Pledge Week starts today. . . . “We’re counting on our listeners to come through for us,” says general manager Mark Schiffelbein. “They always have.”
