BRADBURY : Official May Have Diverted More Money, Mayor Says

Longtime Bradbury City Manager Dolly Vollaire may have diverted much more city money to her own personal use than city officials first believed, the mayor announced this week.
While an audit requested by the council last month focused on Vollaire’s use of the city credit card, a more comprehensive look at city finances back to mid-1990 revealed serious irregularities of “significant amounts” in several other accounts from which Vollaire sought reimbursement, Mayor Audrey Hon said.
Those accounts include petty cash and Vollaire’s personal credit card account.
City officials would not cite a dollar figure, but City Atty. C. Edward Dilkes said the amounts are “very substantial. We’re talking big money.” Auditors will extend their review of Vollaire’s spending to at least 1983, when the city credit card was issued.
Alleged misuse of city funds by Vollaire was brought to light after Bradbury gadfly Robert Penney Jr. produced city credit card statements earlier this month documenting Vollaire’s purchases of luxury items.
The matter is being investigated by the district attorney’s office.
