El Toro wins--El Toro won the girls’ and boys’ team events Saturday to take the 21st Foothill High School Prep Swim Games.
Charger senior John Simmons was named boys’ swimmer of the meet. Simmons swam the first leg of the 200 medley relay, and anchored the 400 freestyle relay, both to third-place finishes, and won the 200 free in 1 minute, 43.12 seconds, and the 100 backstroke in 51.90.
Cathy Carone of Capistrano Valley and San Clemente’s Teresa Mauck shared the top girls’ swimmer honor. Carone missed her own record of 59.01, which she set in the prelims, by .90 in the 100 fly, then won the 100 backstroke, and swam on the 200 free relay team, which placed second, and the 400 free relay, which placed first.
Mauck won the 200 IM in 2:10.16, and the 500 free in 5:06.83.
