Beck is on his second trip through Saddleback. The first time around he was a 17-year-old freshman from Capistrano Valley High School in 1990.
He did well that season, finishing fifth in the State meet in the three-meter and sixth in one-meter diving.
He then spent two years competing only on club teams. But Beck is back at Saddleback and doing well.
He won the overall title Saturday at the Saddleback Diving Pentathlon with 419.85 points, 15 more than the nearest competitor.
He was first in the three-meter with 231.10 points and fourth in the one-meter with 188.75 points.
Other top performers:
Kent Dowding pitched a six-hitter as Rancho Santiago beat Cypress, 3-2.
Orange Coast’s Mike Melcher had 46 kills, 23 digs and eight aces in the Pirates’ three victories.
