A 19-year-old Canoga Park man was in extremely critical condition in West Valley Hospital late Monday night, after he was shot in the head by a passing motorist, police said.
The victim, who police said is Latino and a gang member, was shot about 4 p.m. Monday while riding in his cousin’s car on Topanga Canyon Boulevard at Wyandotte Street in Canoga Park.
According to Los Angeles Police Det. Rick Swanston, two suspects in a red, ‘70s-vintage Chevrolet Monte Carlo pulled up beside the cousins and fired at them with what Swanston identified as a small-caliber handgun.
Swanston would not identify the victim or his cousin, but said police believe that the shooting was gang-related. No one had been arrested as of 9 p.m. last night, he said.
Swanston, a homicide detective, said the victim was in surgery Monday night.
