Make Faculty All Part Time

As Valley Life of Sept. 18 pointed out, 55% of the faculty at Valley and Pierce Junior colleges are part time. At College of the Canyons, the figure is closer to 80%.
If, as Pierce President Lowell Erickson says, the new Wilson budget leaves Pierce only enough for salaries, then convert the remaining 45% of faculty to part-time pay, reducing the salary from $48,000 to $19,000 per instructor, and cancel all benefits. Then the college can meet its budget without layoffs. And $19,000 is still double a part-timer’s pay.
