HAWTHORNE : Man Found Guilty of Rape and Robbery

A 25-year-old Los Angeles man was convicted Thursday of raping and robbing four teen-age girls in the Hawthorne area.
Lester Paul Green was found guilty in Los Angeles Superior Court on 16 counts ranging from rape to sodomy to false imprisonment. He faces up to 60 years in prison, according to the prosecutor in the case, Deputy Dist. Atty. Mark Debbaudt. Sentencing is set for March 5.
Debbaudt said Green attacked teen-age girls as they walked down the street. He attacked one pair on Hawthorne Boulevard near Imperial Highway on New Year’s Day, 1989. Two other young women accused Green of attacking them in the same area in December, 1989.
His trial was delayed because after his 1989 arrest he was found mentally unfit to stand trial. He spent four years in the psychiatric ward at Patton State Hospital in San Bernardino County, and last May was declared fit to stand trial.
