Clinton’s Stand on Haiti

Supporting democracy in Haiti, including upholding the election of Jean-Bertrand Aristide, is a laudable position to take and I applaud you for it. Wouldn’t the attainment of democracy in Haiti be easier to realize if pressure could be put on the “tiny political elite” that actually controls political power there?
As you correctly pointed out in your editorial, the “brutal military” only constitute the instrument of oppression in Haiti; the real beneficiaries are not as visible.
Why not identify them?
