Emma’s Beginning: It was a good weekend for Emma Thompson. The actress was named British actress of the year for “Howards End” by the London Film Critics Circle on Friday, the day before she was named best actress in a drama for the film at the Golden Globes in Beverly Hills. According to a spokesman for the British critics group: “This is usually a good pointer to the Oscars. . . .”
