The Police Department won City Council authorization Tuesday to negotiate a $275,590 contract for a computer system.
The department, which is still using a card file to track its 911 calls and dispatch police cars, will be automated in six months, said Police Chief Joe Santoro.
The council also approved $7,950 to upgrade the police communications center, including radios, telephones, the 911 system and hearing-impaired communications system.
