Two Oxnard boys, ages 9 and 13, were arrested Sunday evening on suspicion of attempting to steal snacks from Channel Islands High School in Oxnard, authorities said.
Oxnard police responded about 5:10 p.m. to a silent alarm at the school at 1400 E. Raiders Way, police said.
“When they arrived, they found a couple of juveniles outside a building” at the school, Sgt. Gene Thayer said. The boys ran from the officers but were caught, he said.
Upon investigation, police learned that the boys had entered the school’s snack bar through a skylight.
“The snack bar had been ransacked and property had been stacked up in a large plastic trash bag, which the suspects had left near the door on the inside of the building,” Officer Randy P. Gens said in a statement.
Thayer said the bag contained candy bars, soft drinks and other snacks.
The boys were cited and released to their parents, police said.
The high school has been the scene of several burglaries in the last few months, including the theft in late October of four computers worth $4,000. A total of $30,000 of computer equipment has been stolen from the school this year, officials said.
