Filling That Vacancy in Huntington Beach

Dana Parsons’ column (“Arithmetic Outweighs Logic in Filling Jack Kelly’s Seat,” Dec. 9) regarding filling Jack Kelly’s Huntington Beach Council seat recorded his logic--not the majority of the voters. I was one of many who worked during the campaign to ensure that Ms. (Susie) Newman was not elected. It was as much an objective as electing Messrs. (Victor) Leipzig and (Dave) Sullivan. The majority of voters agreed, as evidenced by the results.
Mr. Kelly’ s death was not an open door to Ms. Newman to obtain the seat, nor was the seat subject to the prior election.
