Irvine 30, Newport Beach Newport Harbor 8--Aron Garcia passed for 254 yards and two touchdowns to lead the eighth-ranked Vaqueros (13-1) to an easy victory in the Southern Section Division IV championship at Orange Coast College.
It’s the second consecutive title for Irvine, which won the Division II championship last season.
Newport Harbor (11-3) keyed on running back Scott Seal, who had 1,827 yards rushing and 27 touchdowns coming into the game. He finished with 70 yards in 24 carries.
Garcia completed his first nine passes and finished by completing 17 of 23. He threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Tony Arellano in the first quarter and a 45-yard touchdown pass to Tony Mathis in the third quarter.
Arellano also caught a 54-yard touchdown pass from Seal, which gave the Vaqueros a 23-0 halftime lead.
