Three Jockeys Escape Serious Injury in Spill

Jockeys Corey Nakatani, David Flores and Adalberto Lopez escaped serious injury in a three-horse spill during the ninth race at Hollywood Park on Saturday.
The mishap occurred when Pennblue, the 5-2 favorite in the seven-furlong race for $10,000 fillies and mares, broke down while rallying under Nakatani. She fell, then Showmanship, ridden by Flores, and Articulation, ridden by Lopez, tripped over the 4-year-old Saros filly.
Nakatani got up and walked away from the scene. Lopez, examined at the track’s first aid station, had a bruised leg, and Flores was taken to Centinela Hospital Medical Center as a precaution, but appeared to suffer only facial cuts.
Pennblue suffered a broken left front ankle and had to be destroyed. Articulation and Showmanship were unhurt.
