Grossmont 3-A League

Helix 24, Granite Hills 0-- The No. 1-ranked Highlanders scored all their points by halftime in capping a 10-0, 4-0 season. Teneil Ethridge scored on runs of eight and 60 yards. Jeremy Gottlieb caught a 29-yard pass from Josh Smith and kicked a 37-yard field goal. Ethridge rushed for 119 yards on 11 carries. The Eagles (4-6, 1-3) had only 135 total yards.

Monte Vista 28, Grossmont 3--Ricky Berrian (22 rushes, 126 yards) scored on touchdown runs of 5, 7, 1 and 20 yards for Monte Vista (6-4, 3-1). Teammates John Acosta was 10 of 21 for 110 yards and Joel Miller carried 20 times for 82 yards.

Avocado League

Torrey Pines 28, Oceanside 7--The Falcons scored seven points in each quarter with four different players. Josh Stern (23 yards), Brian Batson (52 yards) and Ryan Lynch (six yards) scored on runs. Torrey Pines (8-2, 6-1) also won a coin flip to determine the No. 1 seed among the three Avocado League teams that tied for first place. Oceanside is 5-5, 4-3.

El Camino 47, San Marcos 6--Alex Munoz and Renal Robinson returned blocked punts for touchdowns and Herman Gordon caught two touchdown passes from Trey Crayton as No. 3 El Camino (9-1, 6-1) cruised to a share of the league title with San Pasqual and Torrey Pines. Bryant Westbrook, Mike Flanagan and Brian Rose scored on runs of 2, 18 and 48 yards for El Camino, which had the won the last three Avocado titles. San Marcos finished 0-9-1, 0-7.

San Pasqual 35, Escondido 3--DeSale Wallace rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns on seven carries, and Jamon Buggs had 111 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. Buggs and Wallace broke Cullen Owen’s career rushing record with Buggs moving into first place. Buggs is nine yards short of Owen’s single-season record of 1,192 yards. Escondido finished 2-8, 2-5.

City Central League

Crawford 38, Hoover 0--The Colts (7-3, 5-0) wrapped up the Central crown by holding the Cardinals (0-10, 0-5) to 84 total yards and forcing seven turnovers. Quarterback Dominic Mosler ran for one touchdown and completed 14 of 20 passes for 152 yards and three touchdowns. Michael Bell caught seven passes for 83 yards, including a 15-yard score, and had an interception.

San Diego 20, Madison 14--Mel Hernandez scored from a yard out in the fourth quarter to lift San Diego (5-5, 2-3). Jacque Jones scored on a 25-yard run for the Cavers. Jerry Young scored both touchdowns for Madison (3-7, 1-4).

Lincoln 14, Serra 13--Lincoln’s defense stopped Lamont Kyle on a two-point conversion in the third quarter to hold off Serra (3-7, 3-2). The conversion came after Isaac Reynolds’ 45-yard touchdown run. Lincoln (4-6, 4-1) got two scores from Darran Hall, one a 40-yard run, the other a 10-yard pass reception from Akili Smith. Serra’s Billy Dill rushed 14 times for 162 yards.

City Harbor League

St. Augustine 59, Clairemont 0--St. Augustine (9-1, 4-0) wrapped up its third consecutive Harbor title by tying a school record for points set two weeks ago. The Saints have now scored 161 points in its last four games.

Coronado 15, Christian 0--Sean Sadler led Coronado (6-4, 3-1) with 102 yards on 13 carries. Teammate Chad Walery ran 19 times for 67 yards. Christian finished 1-8, 1-3.

City Eastern League

Mira Mesa 30, Patrick Henry 3--Mike Pittman ran for two touchdowns and 155 yards on 28 carries to lead Mira Mesa (5-5, 1-2).

Metro Conference

Southwest 22, Chula Vista 19--Southwest overcame a 13 point deficit, mostly on the efforts of quarterback O’Brian Woods, who completed 14 of 26 attempts for 128 yards and two touchdowns. John Cotton had three catches for 55 yards and one touchdown, and Al Siapno caught four passes for 44 yards and one touchdown. Chula Vista was driving with just over three minutes remaining when Southwest’s Jesse Rodriguez intercepted the ball and returned it 57 yards.

Bonita Vista 37, Mar Vista 0--Bonita Vista (7-3, 5-2) scored on its first five possessions, including the first play of the game on Oscar Johnson’s 44-yard run. Johnson rushed seven times for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Brian Melancon rushed 17 times for 101 yards and two scores. Wayne Nankill completed eight of 12 passes for 177 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown pass to Chris Lampert. Jim Stuckey caught four passes for 89 yards. Mar Vista finished 2-8, 0-7.

Palomar League

Poway 44, Vista 0--After two straight losses, Poway (7-3, 5-2) ended the regular season strongly, preventing Vista Coach Dick Haines from winning his historic 309th career game. Haines was one victory from moving alone into 10th on the all-time victory list five weeks ago, but since then has gone 0-4-1. Vista is 4-5-1, 2-4-1.

Fallbrook 20, San Dieguito 7--Tommy Hoff rushed for 137 yards on 19 carries, including a touchdown run of one yard for Fallbrook (6-3-1, 3-3-1). Teammate Tim Pearson caught five passes for 104 yards, and quarterback John Dutton was eight of 20 for 149 yards. San Dieguito finished 3-7, 1-6.

Mt. Carmel 23, Rancho Bernardo 0--Marlin Carey ran for 169 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries and also broke the Mt. Carmel single-season scoring record with 118 points on 18 touchdowns. Sundevil quarterback Damian Dolin was 10 of 17 for 119 yards for fifth-ranked Mt. Carmel (8-1-1, 7-0).

Eight-man Coastal League

Julian 37, Francis Parker 20--By improving to 8-1, 4-1, Julian captured the Coastal League title and a berth in the eight-man Section championship game, a rare occasion in Julian. “This is insane,” said running back Cory Burnett, who rolled for 77 yards and one touchdown on seven carries. “I can’t believe it--we’re going to the championship.”

Several contributed for Julian: Anthony Howard carried 20 times for 128 yards and one touchdown, Frank Stewart gained 80 yards and one TD on 15 runs, J.D. Yohner threw for a touchdown and ran for another, and defensive back Steve Lara intercepted three passes and now has 13 this season.

That places Lara second in the Section record book for most interceptions in one season behind Dave Duncan, who had 16 in 1963 for El Capitan. Lara moved ahead of Gene Alim, current coach at Sweetwater, who intercepted 12 passes in 1969 for Mar Vista.

Francis Parker quarterback Scott Schneider completed 17 of 44 passes for 175 yards and one touchdown. Charles Pope caught eight passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns.

Bishop’s 47, La Jolla Country Day 6--Steve Vasil completed 10 of 18 passes for 220 yards and three touchdowns, of 45, 13 and 20 yards, for Bishop’s (4-4, 3-2). Gerald Anderson rushed 10 times for 74 yards and touchdowns of one and 10 yards. Patrick Wenger had four catches for 69 yards and Aaron Taylor had three for 69. LJCD is 3-5, 3-2.

Santa Fe Christian 43, Borrego Springs 23--Daryl Dalton rushed 17 times for 212 yards and two touchdowns to lift Santa Fe Christian (3-7, 2-3).

Nonleague

Mt. Miguel 24, West Hills 21--Trailing 21-14 in the last two minutes of the game, Mt. Miguel senior defensive back Normal Hall blocked a West Hills punt, picked it up and ran it 58 yards for the winning touchdown. Jamel Mitchell scored on a 12-yard touchdown pass and hit a 27-yard field goal. For West Hills (1-9), Robert Thomas scored three rushing touchdowns. Mt. Miguel improved to 2-8.
