Alhambra : Homeowners Demonstrate
Wearing pink handmade badges inscribed “R-1,” 40 homeowners cheered and clapped Monday when the City Council rezoned their properties from multifamily to single-family.
The vote was momentarily delayed when a lawyer representing the Harris Family Trust argued that the city had failed to comply with the California Environmental Quality Act in preparing the zoning change, which will protect a neighborhood near the South Pasadena boundary from higher-density development.
The council went into closed session to discuss the challenge, but came out 10 minutes later to the cheers of the residents and voted 4 to 0 to approve an amendment to the General Plan and the zone changes. Councilman Boyd G. Condie was absent.
