The Gladiators’ defensive specialist has been a key to Gahr’s 3-1 start this year. Benson does not post big statistics, but Coach Sonny Okamoto says, “She does not make mistakes. She is our passing and defensive specialist. Without her passing, we could not set the ball and we could not hit the ball.” Benson has not missed a serve all year. Last week, Benson helped the Gladiators record two San Gabriel Valley League victories. Benson recorded two kills and five digs in an easy win over Downey 15-0, 15-3 and 15-5. She then recorded two service aces and six digs as the Gladiators defeated Lynwood 15-7, 15-4 and 15-5.

Other top performers:

Heather Hoffmans recorded 25 assists as she led St. Joseph to a 15-5, 15-10 and 15-11 sweep over Del Rey League opponent Bishop Amat.

Michelle Wineke helped Gahr of Cerritos to a couple of San Gabriel Valley League wins. She recorded 34 kills and eight service aces as the Gladiators swept matches from Downey and Lynwood.
