AMR Sues Network Partners: AMR Corp. has accused Hilton Hotels Corp., Marriott Corp. and Budget Rent-a-Car of undermining a 1988 agreement to develop an industrywide computer reservations network. In a lawsuit filed in state District Court in Dallas, the parent of American Airlines charged its three former partners with trying to twist the Confirm network to their own benefit. Confirm was envisioned as a comprehensive system that would enable travelers to book airline tickets, hotel rooms and rental cars simultaneously. The system’s technology was designed to be generic, so the partners could market it to other travel industry customers. But AMR claims that Hilton, Marriott and Budget provided only company-specific data, which made integration impossible.
