Writers who have written or want to write books for children need not wander in the wilderness wondering how to market manuscripts. The answers will be provided at the Society of Children’s Book Writers (Ventura/Santa Barbara Region) annual conference. The all-day seminar will begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 3 in the Radisson Hotel, 2001 W. Vineyard Ave., Oxnard. Panelists include local authors Fran Lantz, Marni McGee and Lee Wardlaw, who have written dozens of books for children and young adults; and Nola Thacker, consulting editor for Scholastic Publications in New York and author of three picture books.
They will describe what it takes to create literature for today’s young people in a booming children’s book market. A number of area authors and illustrators will also be on hand to autograph their books. The conference will conclude at a reception hosted by Adventures for Kids Book Store, 3457 Telegraph Road, Ventura. The $45 fee includes lunch. Send check (by Sept. 30) to Jean Stangl, 1658 Calle La Cumbre, Camarillo, CA 93010 or call 482-1075.
