THOUSAND OAKS : Fiore Hospitalized With Blood Clot

Thousand Oaks City Councilman Alex Fiore was admitted to Los Robles Regional Medical Center after doctors detected a blood clot in his leg.
“It came up suddenly,” the 66-year-old Fiore said Wednesday. “But I’m OK.”
Reached at Los Robles, Fiore said he was not in danger and expects to be discharged within four or five days. He has been hospitalized since Tuesday.
Fiore said his doctor prescribed blood-thinning medication that stops the clot from growing. The councilman has been confined to his bed and told to keep his leg elevated. “The danger is that it gets dislodged, and then you get real complications,” he said.
The councilman said he felt sharp pain in his leg last week while attending a conference in Huntington Beach. He was admitted to the hospital after a test revealed the large clot in his left leg.
A member of the council since 1964, Fiore is credited with helping to form the city of Thousand Oaks. He has said he plans to retire when his term ends in 1994.
