Spiegel to Build Distribution Center in Ohio: The mail-order giant says it will build a distribution center near Columbus, Ohio. Spiegel, based in Downers Grove, Ill., chose the location over Illinois sites in Champaign, Decatur and Plainfield. The company, which is moving its distribution operation out of Chicago, expects the new facility to be in place by the end of 1994. The company said the 1-million-square-foot building will house catalogue distribution operations for Spiegel, Eddie Bauer and other company affiliates. The distribution center could initially employ up to 1,500 people, Spiegel officials said.
