San Marcos 34, Newbury Park 20--Steve Guzman rushed for 222 yards and four touchdowns in 40 carries to lead the visiting Royals (2-0). Guzman scored on runs of four and 24 yards in the first half and twice from one yard in the fourth quarter.

Junior quarterback Keith Smith paced Newbury Park (1-1), completing 25 of 43 passes for 281 yards with touchdowns of 15 yards to Leodes Van Buren and five yards to Jason Toohey.
