FULLERTON — Good execution by the offensive line helped Che Garcia score three touchdowns in Anaheim’s 37-0 victory over Fullerton in a nonleague football game Thursday at Fullerton High School.
On the first play of the game, Anaheim’s Jake Walker recovered a fumble by Fullerton’s Manuel Saulcedo at the Fullerton 26-yard line. Four plays later, Garcia scored from the four-yard line with 9 minutes 41 seconds left in the first quarter.
Garcia, who rushed for 92 yards in 13 carries, also scored on an eight-yard pass from Phil Covarrubias with 1:39 left in the second quarter and a three-yard run with 11:55 remaining in the game.
Brian Diaz, playing his first game since last year’s season opener against Fullerton, gained 159 of Anaheim’s 390 yards rushing. Diaz, injured in the 1991 season opener, sat out the season with a blood clot in his leg.
“Our kids executed well, and I was pleased with the execution of our offensive line. They blocked phenomenal,” said Todd Borowski, Anaheim’s first-year coach.
Although Fullerton quarterback Keith Ginter blocked a Julio Herrera point-after kick and John Ricchio and Ryan Schatz each recovered fumbles, Fullerton (0-1) was affected by five fumbles and poor field position.
Fullerton, held to 29 net yards offense in the first half, finished the game with 65 net yards.
