OUTLOOK
During winter conditioning, Friedrich had very high hopes for this team. “But we’ve been decimated by injuries and kids moving away since then,” he said. Quarterback Darrel Turner (400 yards rushing, 700 passing last season) moved to Georgia. Defensive back Edwin McHenry moved to Oklahoma. Punter Darrin Meyers quit to play water polo. Offensive lineman Larry Houser was injured in a motorcycle accident and is doubtful for the upcoming season. “We lost two of the 10 best players in the league (in McHenry and Turner),” Friedrich said. But the Sentinels still have two of the league’s better running backs in McCown (770 yards, nine touchdowns) and Wright (125 yards rushing), and will lose only 11 seniors from the 73-man roster. “We’re going to have to rely on all our young guys to get us through this year,” Friedrich said. “We may be a year away. But I think we will be a lot better.”
