Truck Accident Causes Freeway Snarls

ANAHEIM — Commuters found each direction of the Santa Ana and the Riverside freeways jammed with traffic for more than five hours Monday when a truck carrying a large crane careened over the center divider, said Officer Lyle Whitten of the California Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred at 2:30 p.m. on the southbound Santa Ana Freeway near Crescent Avenue when a truck carrying a triple-axle crane--weighing 50,000 pounds--blew the left front tire and the driver lost control, Whitten said.
As the truck veered to the left, it crossed the center divider and eventually stretched out across the northbound and southbound fast lanes, Whitten said.
Traffic backed up past the Los Angeles County line in La Mirada and into Norwalk.
