Assistant Chief Deputy Kevin J. McGee will take over as chief deputy district attorney, the third-ranking position in the office, Dist. Atty. Michael D. Bradbury announced Friday.
McGee assumes the job recently vacated by Vincent J. O’Neill Jr., who was appointed by the governor to a Municipal Court judgeship.
McGee joined the district attorney’s office in June, 1982, after working in private practice in Los Angeles for about three years. He holds a degree in law from Loyola University.
The job of assistant chief deputy will remain vacant indefinitely because of the county’s budget cut-backs.
Bradbury also announced Friday that he has been forced to lay off two deputy district attorneys in the misdemeanor section to help offset a 5% budget cut. He also said two people who assist victims will be cut and two investigators will take early retirement.
