Continental, American Raise Domestic Fares: Continental Airlines said it will raise about two-thirds of its domestic fares about $10 to $40 round trip. The realignment will base ticket prices on mileage, it said. The increase, which will take effect next Friday, is intended “to be fairer mainly to consumers, but also to make sure there’s some equitability among competing airlines,” spokesman Dave Messing said. American Airlines, the nation’s largest carrier, said it will raise fares to match the Continental increase. It said it did not immediately know how many routes would be affected.
