Electrified Freeways
Regarding the noble idea of electric cars in Los Angeles to battle the smog problem:
A longer-term answer would be to track the freeways with electric slots. Cars would need much smaller batteries to get from the home to the main roads. Computers would control speed, car spacing, destination and billing. Utilities could keep their monopolies by turning the deserts into solar electric producing areas, thereby kicking the oil habit for the first time.
These ideas may be far down the road, but how do you want to breathe in the next decade?
