Players International Inc. in Calabasas reported a $430,300 loss for its fiscal first quarter ended June 30, in contrast with a year-earlier profit of $71,000.
Revenue declined 28%, to $4.84 million from $6.68 million.
Players, which markets travel packages for gambling resorts, blamed the loss on lower earnings from its 900-telephone business and its membership club. The company said it is trying to cut costs, and is hoping that its planned riverboat casino in Illinois will add to its future earnings. The riverboat is expected to begin operating next spring.
