Newsday

Former heavyweight champion George Foreman, a gold medalist in the 1968 Mexico City Games, has a plan for the United States to regain its dominance in Olympic boxing: a little dose of Big George and his professional cronies, a la the Dream Team.

“I’ve heard guys saying, ‘Whup those Yanks,’ ” Foreman said. “I’d be willing to come over here for a nickel. Forget the money and go for the medal. You know who else ought to be over here? That guy who beat (Sugar Ray) Leonard.”

Can you imagine gold-medal finals of George Foreman vs. Felix Savon and Terry Norris vs. Juan Lemus? It would be worth a lot more than cinco pesetas .

This a daily roundup of Olympic-related items from reporters in Barcelona from the Los Angeles Times, Newsday and Baltimore Sun, all Times-Mirror newspapers.
