COSTA MESA — A man was shot early Sunday in a possible sniper attack in a shopping center parking lot.
Gerardo Casillas, 21, was taken to Hoag Hospital and was in fair condition with a bullet wound in his left foot, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Casillas was walking with an unidentified friend in the Vista Center shopping center on 19th Street and Placentia Avenue when they heard what sounded like a gunshot, Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Karl Schuler said.
Casillas and his friend saw no gunman or car, but police are not ruling out the possibility that the incident was a drive-by shooting.
