Giorgio Furlan of Italy, a longshot when the Tour of Switzerland began, finished in the lead pack of 78 riders and clinched the biggest victory of his road cycling race career.
Furlan, the leader since the second stage, had an overall time of 47 hours 2 seconds for the 10-stage, 1,116-mile course. He beat fellow Italian and world champion Gianni Bugno by 31 seconds.
Three-time Tour de France champion Greg LeMond finished fourth overall, 1:31 behind Furlan.
