Giorgio Furlan of Italy held his overall lead in the Tour of Switzerland through the cycling race’s toughest leg, which ended in La Punt. French cyclist Eric Boyer won the 148-mile eighth stage in 6 hours, 44 minutes, 47 seconds. Furlan finished in a pack of about 10 riders behind Boyer, and has a 31-second lead for today’s last Alpine stage.
Greg LeMond and world champion Gianni Bugno of Italy finished with the same time as Furlan. Bugno is second in the overall standings. LeMond is fourth.
