A Glendale man was sentenced Monday in Pasadena Superior Court to life in prison for arranging an attack that left his former stepsister blind and disfigured.
Carlo Topalian, 22, was convicted in April of aggravated mayhem and assault with a caustic chemical for arranging for a friend to throw acid in the face of Shusan Eloyan, now 25, outside a Glendale market in July, 1989.
Authorities said Topalian’s father, Ara, blamed Eloyan for the breakup of his brief marriage to the victim’s mother.
Carlo Topalian helped his father arrange for Emad Fawzi Kalta of Hacienda Heights to attack the woman.
Ara Topalian was convicted of conspiracy and aggravated mayhem and was sentenced to life in prison.
Kalta pleaded guilty last May to mayhem, aggravated mayhem and assault with a caustic chemical.
After testifying against the Topalians, he was sentenced to eight years in prison.
