Burge Twins and Leslie Invited to Elite Clinic

Former Palos Verdes High standouts Heather and Heidi Burge and former Morningside star Lisa Leslie are among 15 collegiate basketball players who have been invited to participate in the inaugural Premier Post Program.
The elite clinic is designed for women players who are 6-foot-4 or taller and have completed at least one year of collegiate competition. The 6-5 Burge twins play for Virginia and the 6-5 Leslie competes for USC.
The four-day camp will be Aug. 15-18 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., and features a coaching staff headed by Pete Newell, one of the most respected basketball clinicians in the nation and coach of the 1960 U.S. men’s Olympic team that won the gold medal.
A victory celebration and dinner honoring the San Pedro High baseball and softball teams--both City Section 4-A Division champions--will be held Tuesday night at the Dalmation-American Club in San Pedro.
Social hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the Dalmation-American Club of San Pedro, 1639 S. Palos Verdes St. Information: (310) 831-2629.
The 15th annual Peninsula Baseball Camp will be July 27-31 at Palos Verdes Intermediate School (formerly Palos Verdes High). Boys and girls age 6-14 are eligible for the camp, which will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
Emphasis will be on fundamentals, games and swimming. Also planned is an appearance by Dodger first baseman Eric Karros. Information: Tom Maier at (310) 547-0667.
