Don Cardinal is having no second thoughts as he heads into his final game as a high school baseball coach. “I’ve had retirement on my mind for two years,” he said, “so I’m resolved to it now.”
Cardinal, who recently completed his 26th season as coach of Channel Islands, will lead the North squad in the Ventura County all-star game at Oxnard College today at 1 p.m.
Angel Aragon of Channel Islands, who went 10-3 with a 1.23 earned-run average, will start for the North. Westlake right-hander John Snyder (6-4, 1.28 ERA), who struck out 97 in 60 innings, will start for the South.
Top hitters include Thousand Oaks’ Jim Chergey (.393) of the North and Rio Mesa’s Jon McMullen (.500) of the South.
