A 15-year-old boy was killed and another youth wounded during a gun battle between rival gangs near downtown Los Angeles, police said Saturday.
The boy was standing with reputed gang members at 3rd Street and Loma Drive when a gunman opened fire on them about 3:30 p.m. Friday, Rampart Division officers said. He was hit by a bullet in the abdomen, and the other youth was struck in the foot.
The gunman escaped despite being pursued by the rival gang members, who drew their weapons. The two shooting victims were taken to the Hospital of the Good Samaritan, where the 15-year-old died. Detectives did not release the names of the victims.
